Top Ten Songs of the Week

Top Ten Songs of the Week

Hey music lovers,

As the week comes to a close, I have only but one thing for you. The top ten songs of the week this week. So without further ado, here they are.

10. Barenaked Ladies- “If I Had A $1000000”. Such a classic song that when we hear it, we can’t get it out of our heads. This is one of my favorite songs because it’s fun. There is no deeper meaning to this song, which is really neat. Sometimes, we need a straightforward song about a million dollars. What would you do with a million dollars?

9. Better Than Ezra- “At The Stars”. This is a slower song by the band, but nonetheless brings you back to the 90s vibe. This song is really soothing to listen to, and the perfect song if you need a good cry. It reminds you that someone is there for you, or something. You are never alone. If anything, you have the stars.

8. NONONO- “Pumping Blood”. This song is such an upbeat song that gets you going. The chorus is the catchiest part of this song, reminding you that it’s your life, your body, you are alive and ready for action. Take those chances, live your life. Feel the feeling of being alive. Sometimes we only experience life here and there. Why not feel it all the time?

7. Sammy Adams- “Big Lights”. Whenever I am in a city, whether it is Cleveland or Buffalo, I always get this song stuck in my head. The night life in the city is one to die for, where the magic always happens, and yes, they are bright. I remember being in Cleveland and taking a picture of downtown where all the lights were, and it was the most exhilarating feeling I have ever had. I guarantee you won’t be able to get this song out of your head once you hit a city.

6. Tim McGraw F./ Taylor Swift- “Highway Don’t Care”. This song is a beautiful country collaboration between two talented artists. This song is a sad song, but it makes you really listen to the lyrics. It’s about loving someone that you can’t live without and adventuring back to them. I recommend giving this song a listen to, and I guarantee you will love it by the guitar solo.

5. Demi Lovato- “Really Don’t Care”. This girl is going straight up to the top with this song. If you want to know the next hit before anyone else, I highly recommend giving this song a listen. This song is fun and upbeat, about getting over someone and never going back to them. #GirlPower.

4. Jason Mraz- “Love Someone”. I first heard this song when Mraz performed it on American Idol, and fell in love instantly. Like his song “I Won’t Give Up”, the tempo is slow, but the combination of the instruments and his voice come together for form goosebumps. It’s about what happens when you love someone. You can’t help but put a smile on your face whenever you hear this song. This is one of my go-to songs, as I’m sure it will be for you too.

3. Jerrod Niemann F./ Pitbull- “Drink To That All Night”. A little twist on this country hit, this song is a song that you can’t help shaking to. Adding Pitbull into this mix is just pure brilliance. This song is about having fun, forgetting the past and living in the night. This is a summer song that will be blowing up your speakers before you know it.

2. Matchbox Twenty- “Hang”. An older song of Matchbox Twenty’s off of their “Yourself or Someone Like You Album”, this song is a slower song from the band, a sad song as well. My favorite part of this song is how it tells a story between a guy and a girl that is nearing the end, but isn’t quite there yet. The chorus of this song gets me every time, about leaving and getting away, but say the word I’ll just “hang” or stay.

1. Coldplay- “Sparks”. An older Coldplay song. One of my friends sent me this song this week, and although I never heard it before, I knew I would love it. And that I did. This is a slow, acoustic song, which is different from Coldplay’s upbeat songs. I like this song because it reminds me of a romantic scene in a movie. I can see this song in a movie where two lovers are in the back of a pickup truck with blankets surrounding them. They are looking up at the crisp, summer night’s sky. The camera begins on their faces, then zooms out steadily to where they are, what they are in, and so on. I highly recommend this song, especially for a slow dance. This song makes you sway back and forth and makes you reflect on yourself.

Well there you go music lovers. The top ten songs of the week. As you head out into the world, keep these songs and music close to you. You never know when you are going to need them.

So until next time, dance, live, and love music.

Happiness Is the Key to Life, But First….

Happiness Is the Key to Life, But First....

Lemme take a selfie.

Hey music lovers, now that that is out of my system, let’s get down to this post. From the infamous words of former Beatles member John Lennon, comes a very inspirational quote I’m sure many of you have heard, but incase you haven’t or need a refresher, here it is.

“When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness is the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down “happy”. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life.”

So many things in life can make us happy. But what is true happiness?

To me, true happiness isn’t waking up with a smile on your face every morning, or stopping to smell the roses. It’s about enjoying the life you have created for yourself.

If you don’t like something in your life, change it. You are the pilot of your future, the writer of your story.

Make your life worth living. You only have one shot at it. And if done right, one shot is all you need.

Go out there. Make mistakes and learn from them. Some mistakes may lead to a better outcome than expected. Take a chance. Try something new. Try a new food, new music genre, go on that date you were so hesitant about.

Enjoy the little things in life. Take time to read a book if you want to read a book. Listen to the nature outside your window. Fall in love.

They say if you love your job then you don’t work a single day in your life. Hate your job? Then quit. Do it. I dare you. As long as it makes you happy, then that is all that matters.

But always remember to stay true to yourself. Do what you love, not what someone else does. If you aren’t happy, then change it to find out what really does make you happy.

Find your happiness wherever it may be. In art, in music, in nature, traveling, in food, in anything you want! It’s your happiness that matters.

So, until next time, dance, live, and love music. (And be happy!)

The Make Under of the Year

The Make Under of the Year

Hey music lovers. We’ve all heard how the glamorous makeovers work when you become famous. Between the Botox and the facelifts, tummy-tucks and more. But ever wonder what a make under would look like? Let’s ask the infamous Taylor Swift.

We all know that swift wore a wig in her “I Knew You Were Trouble” music video, and how well she pulled off the rocker look, but didn’t we think that it was for just one video? Think again.

Once again T-Swift has traded in her bold, beautiful blonde locks for dark, brunette strands in the upcoming movie “The Giver”. Swift, playing the part of Rosemary, looks grey and all alone on the newly released poster for this movie. The country-pop star not only has dark waves, but pale skin in this movie poster. The poster is mostly black and white with a vertical streak of color in one spot.

The only feature of the old Swift is her beautiful baby blue eyes. But will she stay like this forever?

In the upcoming movie, Swift is also working with Meryl Streep and Katie Holmes. She is exciting about her new film, for she said that, “I couldn’t believe it was happening to me”.

Would you rather the blonde heart-breaking country-pop star, or the brunette Rosemary in The Giver? Let me know in a comment below.

So until next time, dance, live, and love music.

Top Ten Songs of The Week

Top Ten Songs of The Week

Hey music lovers. Between all the packing and moving and finishing a semester, it’s been a little hectic for me to post. But don’t worry. The beautiful summer sunshine and tan skin is here, and so am I. Here are your top ten songs for this week.

10. Boys Like Girls- “Thunder”. In preparation of summer time, summer love is just around the corner. As we all know, summer love comes, and summer love goes as quick as the season. This song is about falling in love in the summer, but as the final sunset arrives, it is time to say our goodbyes even if we don’t want to. Yet every time summer comes around, we will always remember that one summer love.

9. Jana Kramer- “Why Ya Wanna”. I first heard this song when I saw her in concert, and fell in love instantly. This song is about seeing your ex for the first time after the infamous breakup. With a country twang, this One Tree Hill star tells us the story about what it’s like when the guy is nice and normal towards a girl, and what makes us fall in love with them all over again. If you have recently broken it off with your latest beau and need a song to cry to as you remember them, this is the song to turn to.

8. Teddy Geiger- “These Walls”. This Rochester, New York native really belts this one out. Geiger talks about stepping outside of the walls, meaning to break away from reality and to break down once in a while. This song sounds like a beautiful love song, but when you listen to the lyrics, it has a much deeper meaning to it. In the end, you’ve gotta be strong and move on, even if you don’t want to. It’s because you have to.

7. Ryan Cabrera- “On the Way Down”. This song has a really cool 90s beat to it, which I love. It’s about hanging onto someone no matter what. Even though you may lose them, never give up and always hold on. Sometimes you find that one person and the world just makes sense now. This song is a definite listen to.

6. Rixton- “Me and My Broken Heart”. This is a catchy song by a new group that will make it big. This song has a really cool beat to it and awesome lyrics. Whenever you listen, you can’t help but tap your head or bob your head to the beat. I can see this being a summer smash.

5. One Direction- “You & I”. The latest single off of their third album titled “Midnight Memories” the band revert back to their slower ways. This song is absolutely beautiful and more upbeat than their “Little Things” single. This song is about compromise, working together and knowing that the two people that are together are indestructible.

4. Bleachers- “I Wanna Get Better”. This is one of my favorite songs right now. This song is an upbeat song with catchy beats and lyrics. It’s about changing yourself for the better; changing yourself to better yourself for someone else. It’s about the want of changing to be better, and this song encourages you that you can do that.

3. Iggy Azalea- “Fancy”. If you haven’t heard this song yet, I highly recommend that you do. This song has Iggy and Charli XCX rapping and singing, and man, can they rap and sing. With new beats and quick lyrics, the girls know how to do a song. I can see this song getting big in the clubs or when you’re driving in your car late at night.

2. Ariana Grande- “Problem”. Featuring Iggy Azalea in this song is a smart collaboration choice by Grande. This song is going to be the song of the summer. The drop to the chorus is not what you expect at all. It has the typical Ariana Grande beat, but the lyrics, the drop, and Iggy are what stand out most in the song. Once you start singing this song, it is hard to get it out of your head. #GirlPower.

1. 5 Seconds of Summer- “She’s So Perfect”. I could seriously listen to this song on repeat. Not only is this boy band made up of attractive guys (depending on your taste) but their voices make them even sexier. This song is about the flirting game. When you find someone you are attracted to, you flirt with them to win them over. Everybody is perfect just the way they are, and when you’re attracted to someone, they grow to be even more perfect in your eyes.

There you go music lovers. Your top ten songs for this week. Hope you enjoyed them. More music buzz on the way in the next few days.

So until next time, dance, live, and love music.

Sometimes You Just Need A Good Pair of Headphones

Sometimes You Just Need A Good Pair of Headphones

Hey music lovers. So we all know how exhilarating music is. But is music the only thing that helps us get those goosebumps? We hear music everywhere, in restaurants, in arcades, on the radio, in nature, in the bars or clubs, but what do we do when we want to turn the world off and just be with music? We put on our headphones.

Without headphones, we wouldn’t be able to escape the catastrophe of our lives for a while. The first things we do is put on our headphones to take us back to where life began and to focus on the beat of the song, on the lyrics, on the tempo and the way our bodies move. For some of us, SONY earbuds are just what we need, while some of us need the over the head blockades in the form of Beats. We all own our music suckers to allow us the freedom to listen to our music without complaints. I remember being young and my mother yelling at me because my music was too loud, and now I am able to blast it as loud as I want in my ears (under certain restraints of course). Music is seen as our savior, our passage to freedom; it expresses us when we need to feel like ourselves, or when we strive to be someone different.

It’s because of headphones that we are allowed to turn the world off and blast our music into our ears, into our minds, and into our souls. If you ever tell me to turn down my music, expect it to be turned up even louder.

Because of headphones, we are able to dance around the room, jump on our beds, lay down in the grass and just be with the music. Headphones brings us close to music when there isn’t a concert we can adventure to in that moment in time. Headphones brings us back to the simpler times and allows us to close our eyes and feel the beats spread through every muscle in our bodies, vibrate off of every bone we have. Sometimes, when we want to block everything out and just be with music, all you need is a good pair of headphones.

So until next time, dance, live, and love music.

Top Ten Songs of the Week

love quote for blog

Hey music lovers. It’s time to switch things up a little bit. As spring is (hopefully) just around the corner, people seem to be getting into relationships, getting engaged, or getting married to their soul mates. So, this week in honor of the lovebirds or hopeless romantics, I’m bringing you the top ten love songs of the week.

10. Paramore- “Still Into You”. Who can’t help but smile and feel the butterflies erupt from your stomach when you hear this song? This song is a new light for Paramore, which is bouncier and more popish than their other music, which used to be more punk rock. I remember when I first heard this song, I was driving with my girlfriends on our way to Vermont for cliff jumping, and we couldn’t help but blare this song and sing at the top of our lungs with our arms flapping in the air. When the song was over, we all laughed and talked about our usual boy gossip, because the song reminded us of it. The song is about feeling like it’s date one when you’ve been together for a long amount of time. If a person still gives you that energizing rush of goosebumps and makes your heart pitter patter just by smiling, you better hold onto them and never let them go.

9. Tegan and Sara- “Closer”. With the 80s sound this duo have, you can’t help but dance and smile to this song. It’s about being more than physical with someone, but something much deeper than that. Yes the physical attraction is there(oh man is it there), but you want something more than the one night stand with this person. Live in the moment and make them yours, yours where the love will erupt and you will always love this person. So, can you come a little closer?

8. Bruno Mars- “When I Was Your Man”. Maybe not a sweep you off your feet and carry you into the night song, but still a love song none the less. This song is about not realizing what you have until it’s gone. Fellas, girls love and swoon over the little things you do for us, like getting us a flower, remembering our favorite milkshake flavor, or what you thought when you first saw us. Take it from Bruno Mars and appreciate the love that you have before it’s too late.

7. Kacey Musgraves- “My House”. I told you this girl is gonna hit it huge. You can live in a palace, a two-story house, a ranch, or a trailer, as long as you have the one you love and go on the adventures together, then that is all that matters. The adventures are what makes the love stronger. You can both tackle the world together, because the both of you together are stronger than ever.

6. B.o.B. F./ Taylor Swift- “Both of Us”. This is a different take on B.o.B.’s style, but it’s such a strong song. Like Musgraves, you’re gonna go through a lot of battles with someone you love. But sometimes, love is all you need if it’s that strong. By adding T-Swift in this mix, by having the guy girl collaboration, it shows the love that people can have, no matter what the couple is like. Swift adds a feminine tone to the mix, while B.o.B. raps out his love. Love can get you through the toughest times, and that is what the song is saying.

5. Gin Blossoms- “Follow You Down”. A little classic throwback for all of you music lovers. The song that featured on “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days”. When you’re in love, time doesn’t matter, as long as you are enjoying each other in the moment, that is what matters most. A couple is meant to do things together, so take up each other’s activities If one likes sports, watch their favorite sport games, if they love a certain band, try a concert. This doesn’t mean you HAVE to do everything together, but it’s good to have SOME things in common with your significant other. Having those differences are what makes the both of you mesh so well together, because you both understand that you have your own things but still have some things in common.

4. Taylor Swift- “Red”. Of course we couldn’t touch on the topic of love without mentioning the Queen of the love and heartbreak relationships. This is one of my all time favorite songs. I love how Swift incorporates colors into her songs, because it is so true. When we think of love, we think of the color red, Valentine’s Day, roses, and more. We remember the bumps in the roads along with the burning red fire of love. There will always be a love, whether it is a first love, or the love you are meant to be with forever. Sometimes it’s difficult to move on, but if you love someone, I always think of the saying, “if you love someone, then let them go. If they come back to you, they were meant to be yours”. This is what Swift is stating, that she let her love go even though she thinks about them all the time.

3. Mariah Carey F./ Miguel- “#Beautiful”. This song came out this past summer. We all expect to be attracted to the person if we are in love with them. But this isn’t talking about just the physical attraction, but the beauty of the person’s personality. Let’s be honest, if we think someone has a dull personality, more likely than not we aren’t going to be with them forever. As Pheobe in Friends would say, you find your lobster, and that is through falling in love with looks and more importantly, personality.

2. Cash Cash F./ John Rzeznick- “Lightening”. This is Cash Cash’s latest release. When I first heard this, I was really confused and thought “man they sound a lot like the Goo Goo Dolls”. Well believe it or not this dub step group paired up with the lead singer of the Goo Goo Dolls, and this song is banging. It’s about the beginning of love. Sometimes, before we find love, we are in a dark place and we don’t really realize we are there until someone comes along that makes us realize that with them, everything seems a little brighter. I can see this song hitting huge, with the beat and the love lyrics, it definitely has potential.

1. Keith Urban- “Somebody Like You”. Ah last but not least ending with the infamous Keith Urban. This song is a little bit of a throwback with a country twang to it. Love tends to open us up to new possibilities and to a day full of smiles. We’ve all made mistakes in the past, but when you love someone, it’s no mistake at all. Love is like a warm summer’s day full of carefree enjoyment and the power of dreaming. We all do crazy things when we are in love, and it’s okay! Take a chance and make them yours. If they make you happy, don’t lose that happiness. With love, we are all open to new possibilities in life because we know our other half will love us no matter what (all good of course). Don’t be afraid to take a chance and jump that cliff to reach the waters, because in the end, it is all meant to be.

So there you go, your top ten love songs of the week. As a last word of advise, don’t be afraid. If you love someone, then show them your love. Express your love in the ways no one else would. If you are trying to find love, you will, because once you do, it is the most amazing thing you will ever experience.

So until next time, dance, live, and love music.

Top Ten Songs of the Week

Top Ten Songs of the Week

Hey music lovers. It’s been a little while but now it’s time for action. Want to know what the top songs are for this week? No worries, I’ve got you covered.

10. Matt Nathanson- “Come On Get Higher”. When this song first released in 2007, it was the go to love song. This song has a beautiful, relaxing sound to it, and when Nathanson sings “swing of your hips”, you can’t help but do as he asks. This song is absolutely beautiful and as summer begins to roll around, it’s the perfect summer night stargazing, bonfire song to listen to.

9. Boys Like Girls- “Stuck In the Middle”. This song is on the band’s latest EP “Crazy World”. Sometimes we all have our down days, or the days that we are most stressed and all we want to do is banish away for a while. Sometimes, we just feel stuck. This song reassures us that we can get through this tough time, because with bad moments comes the happy ones. Even if we feel like breaking down, we can hold it together and make it through. If ever you need a song that is there for reassurance, this is your song (and my song I’ve had on repeat for the last week and a half. But hey, it helps!)

8. Augustana- “Boston”. This song reminds me of the beautiful city, with people swarming around, baseball at the heart of the city, and being full of opportunities and happiness. But this song is more than about the lovely city. It’s about needing a change, about getting away and reinventing yourself. Sometimes we need changes in order to find out who we really are. We need to go to places where no one knows us to make changes. By going somewhere no one knows who you are, you allow yourself the opportunity to create a new you, no matter where that is. Sometimes you need changes in your life, and this song tells you that by going somewhere else for a while, you can do that.

7. Goo Goo Dolls- “Black Balloon”. This song is an old one, but one that is full of life. I love how the Goo Goo Dolls create different sounds that come together to create such an amazing song. I’m always a sucker for violins, guitars, and keyboards in a song, which this one has. This song is a song that allows you to escape reality for a while and adventure into your mind. It makes you really listen to the lyrics and make sense of what the Goo Goo Dolls are trying to say. I feel like in this song, everyone takes away a different message, which I believe is exactly what they are trying to do. Everyone interprets a song differently, and I feel like this song really brings that out.

6. Zac Brown Band- “Toes”. Need a vacation song to bring you away? The tropical beat of this song is the perfect beach getaway song. And let’s be honest, the lyrics fit perfectly with the laid back percussion of this song. Who doesn’t want to leave the warm sun, the smell of sat water, and sand between your toes? I know I don’t. Living simple is the key to a happy life, and this song is as simple as it gets. And as summer is knocking at your door, you can’t help but play this song over and over again in preparation for the future.

5. Lady Antebellum- “American Honey”. A beautiful country song where there really is “nothing sweeter than summertime”. Summertime is where all the magic occurs, where for young adults and for adults themselves, there are no rules, no discipline, just the freedom to explore. The freedom to dream big and accomplish so much. Sometimes we take summers for granted and we miss those simple years where we had so many opportunities to explore without being criticized and to make mistakes if we pleased. So we must take in the moments that we forget to cherish, because the moments will be gone before we know it.

4. Lifehouse- “Falling In”. Need a love song that will take your breath away? This is my go to beautiful song from no other than one of my favorite bands. Off of their “Smoke and Mirrors” album, this song is about one person changing everything for another. When you’re in love, you get butterflies in your stomach, you do crazy things for someone else, and sometimes we do have our doubts, but with the other person they can “feel like home”. The other person completes you and suddenly you aren’t so scared anymore, but more willing to take the jump with your new love. With lead singer Jason Wade’s voice combined with the interesting combination of instruments and technology sounds, this song is absolutely beautiful and if you are in love, I guarantee you will play this on repeat for a very long time.

3. Semisonic- “Closing Time”. When I worked at Dunkin’ Donuts, I always closed up the shop, and this is the song I would always sing. It’s a throwback song about being out and the place you are at is about to close down. “You don’t have to go home but you can’t stay here”. To me this is such a comical but true line in the song, however my favorite line in the song is “every new beginning comes from some other beginning’s end”. This statement could not be more true. When we really think about it, it’s like the saying “as one door closes, another one opens”, which means we can’t always dwell on the past become something better will come along, like meeting someone new. I love the melody of this song because it isn’t hard core rock, but it isn’t slow enough to put you to sleep either, and the piano solo going into the electric guitar solo is guaranteed to give you goosebumps.

2. Matt Hires- “Forever”. This guy is going to hit it big. His sound is a lot like Mumford and Sons. I saw Matt Hires in concert when he opened up for Matchbox Twenty, and he was absolutely fantastic. I love this song because of the beautiful sounds and the guitar build up to the chorus. This song is about being in the moment with someone you like and taking in that moment. Sometimes, we plan too much for the future that we forget to live now, which is what Hires is saying. I can see this song playing as you lay on the grass stargazing with someone on a warm summer night. The boom box is sitting next to you as you and someone else is cuddled up in a blanket and you’re just taking it all in. To me, those are the best moments to live in, and Hires connects to that perfectly.

1. Matchbox Twenty- “Push”. This is probably my favorite Matchbox Twenty song the band has ever created. I saw them in concert this past summer when they were playing with the Goo Goo Dolls, and the band ended with this song. Needless to say it was the best way to end this concert. This song opens with the electric guitar setting the stage and Rob Thomas chiming in at the perfect moment. Off of their “Yourself or Someone Like You” album, “Push” is a slower rock song. In an interview, Thomas stated that this song was about a man getting physically or emotionally abused by their significant other. It’s about cutting free from the strings and struggles and moving past the abuse to be a better person by pushing “you around”. Sometimes we need to escape in order to be stronger than we were before, and this song signifies that escape.

So there you go music lovers, the top ten songs for this week. Have a comment, question, or want me to look into something for you? Leave something below.

So until next time, dance, live, and love music.
